Hide Curing and Tanning
Every hide cured using saturated salt brine releases 2 gallons of water into your raceway every curing cycle. This creates lots of excess brine replete with fat, blood, dirt, feces, hair and anything else associated with the hides. Obviously, this makes disposal difficult as the super high salt content prevents use treatment plants.
In general, the most economical method for handling this material is pumping it into a lagoon to evaporate while preventing its release.
But now the salt content gets in the way (see FAQ # 8) and as the brine sits in the pond the organic levels build even more. With slower evaporation (possibly as low as 30% of your freshwater rates) those expensive ponds fill forcing your company to build more of them. But of course, the brines smell, leading to problems with neighbors.
ESM’s H.E.A.T. Industrial Brine Solution
ESM’s H.E.A.T. Industrial Brine Solution (IBS) is designed to improve the management of high-salinity wastewater produced by hide-curing and related industrial operations.
Using specialized microbial formulations, the system targets odor-producing and organic contaminants within difficult brine environments. This helps facilities improve lagoon performance without installing energy-intensive equipment or making major infrastructure investments.
How ESM’s H.E.A.T. Industrial Brine Solution (IBS) Technology Helps.
ESM’s safe microbial mixes solve your problem by:
1. Eliminating smells in as little as three months
Reduce odors caused by the accumulation and decomposition of organic material.
2. Reducing organic contaminants by as much as 90% and more.
Break down fats, blood, fecal matter, and other organic waste commonly found in spent hide-curing brine.
3. Accelerating the evaporation rate of that problem brine by 10 fold.
Improve lagoon performance and recover valuable capacity more quickly.
4. All without you needing to invest in additional infrastructure or power.
Treat existing lagoons without adding expensive evaporation equipment, new ponds, or substantial power requirements.
